Laurelwood is supported by the Grand Ledge School District, several private schools and major universities.

Grand Ledge Public Schools are known for their distinguished student achievment and exemplary delivery of quality educational programs. Grand Ledge believes in a strong partnership with parents and the community. The district comprises an area of 125 square miles and supports two high schools, two middle schools, and five elementary schools. Grand Ledge also offers an adult education program through it's GED Success Center and Lansing Community College Extension Center.

In addition to the public school system, the area offers a number of private schools including New Covenant Christian School located within 2 miles of Laurelwood, and St. Michaels and Seventh Day Adventists schools located in Downtown Grand Ledge.

Post-secondary opportunities are abundant in the area. Michigan State University, a Big Ten University is a world renowned research facility specializing in the areas of international studies, veterinary and human medicine, and agricultural studies. In addition to the three medical schools, MSU has a law school, private business school and a number of post-graduate programs.

Lansing is also the home of Thomas L. Cooley Law School, the largest Law School in the country, Davenport University, Great Lakes Christian College, and Lansing Community College
